The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA) stipulates that “each employer shall furnish to his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees.” In fiscal year 2024, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigated 826 worker deaths—an 11% decrease from the previous year. Excluding Covid-related cases, this represents the lowest number of worker fatalities OSHA has been mandated to investigate since FY 2017 (dol.gov).
